OUR MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THE
SOUL CINEMA OF PAM GRIER!

Few names loom as large in the world of soul cinema as Pam Grier. She exploded onto 70’s film screens everywhere, ushering in a new era of action heroines in a string of iconic roles. Slinking and thumping behind her in every celluloid frame were original funk soundtracks that enhanced and amplified her striking persona.

When Cadillac Jones, steeped in 1970s jazz funk, was asked by Turner Classic Movies to provide music for their podcast on Pam Grier’s life, it sparked the idea for a full live band tribute to the music of her films - and soon Foxy Jones came to life.

Foxy Jones performs songs from Pam’s breakout hit Coffy composed by Roy Ayers, Foxy Brown by Willie Hutch, and her lesser-known movies like Friday Foster, Cool Breeze, and Sheba Baby. Some of this incredible music lives on solely on hard-to-find vinyl and by the good-will of music lovers who uploaded entire albums to youtube.

Foxy Jones’s first performance was in October of 2023 at the Sweet Auburn Music Festival in downtown Atlanta, and shortly thereafter, they played a blistering sets at Hulaween Festival in Florida, and back in Atlanta at Smith’s Olde Bar.

Foxy Jones is anchored by a full rhythm section, complemented by congas, a multi-piece horn section, analogue synths of the era, and the soaring lead vocals of Awleen Knight, who brings both ferocity and tenderness to these songs.
